I just ordered this one and can't wait to read it. It sounds fascinating. Of course, what else have we come to expect from Douglas Wilson and friends?

Caleb,

When you finish reading the book, drop me an email and we can set up a Q and A on this forum for your readers. You can ask me the toughest questions you gathered from reading the book and we'll dialogue.

Best.

Jonathan,

Thanks for your gracious response. I wasn't planning on reading or commenting on your book, I have a tall stack I'm trying to get to this summer, but, because you bothered to read and comment, I will, and maybe we can have a constructive dialogue about it.

My comments weren't particularly nuanced, but I spent about five minutes pounding them out while I'm sure you spent much longer struggling with your arguments and the biblical texts. I apologize if my comment sounded harsh, it wasn't intended to. My goal is not to be some kind of attack blogger.

However, what I was commenting on was the linked interview. You were concerned that I am reading a 21st Century American mindset back into the Bible about cities, but from my perspective...what could be more 21st Century than a "Green," Vegetarian God?

I might be missing it here, so, in fairness, I'll read the book. Thanks for taking the time to respond to my brief critique.

I would really suggest reading my book. I think your comments here lack nuance that the scriptures provide. The scriptures give us an amazing narrative about God's purposes and ways, filled with commandments and principles. It is probably not best to read back into the Bible a 21st Century American mindset. For example, what a writer in an agrarian culture in 600 BC meant when he used the term "city" is probably more nuanced than someone who lives in Hyde Park. We should be sensitive to the nuances of the Biblical text, which is what I try to do in my book.

Best,
